Wood Shingles / Shake
Wood shingles/shake was the roof covering of choice for upper-end homes built in many areas from the 1950s into the 1980s. One of the ways architects tried to differentiate their semi-custom and custom homes from tract homes was by using wood shake roofs rather than composition asphalt shingles commonly used in subdivisions.
Wooden shingle roofs are a great way to add a warm and natural look to your home. While most modern builders have switched to asphalt or ceramic shingles, wood shingles offer the same quality but with the additional bonus of traditional beauty and charm.
When choosing wood shingles/shakes a customer should consider whether or not the city/county in which their building is located allows installation of wood shingles/shakes. Alpine Roofing would also advise that insurance companies be consulted, typically with the added fire dangers insurance rates could be at a premium for wood type roofs, if allowed at all.
